Christmas Album

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Christmas Album was released on 15 October 1970 on Motown and was the Jackson 5's fourth studio album and first Christmas album. It closed a successful year in which the group released three albums. The Corporation and Hal Davis produced it.

The group gave well-known Christmas songs a modern twist. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town was released as a single, and together with I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus it is still played on the radio every year at Christmas time. Michael Jackson and Jermaine Jackson share the lead vocals. In December 1970 the record spent four weeks at the top of Billboard's special Christmas chart. Critics called the album one of the best Christmas records. Rolling Stone spoke of a gem, and AllMusic gave it four and a half stars.
