Music for Pleasure
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Music for Pleasure · For The Damned's second album, in November 1977, a striking producer took the controls: Nick Mason of Pink Floyd. The band had first asked Syd Barrett, but he lived too withdrawn a life. Mason later said that the band was used to a much faster recording pace than he knew from Pink Floyd. A new guitarist took part, Lu Edmonds, alongside Brian James, and saxophonist Lol Coxhill played as a guest. It was the band's last studio record with James and the last on Stiff Records. The sleeve is by Barney Bubbles.
Musically the band remained punk, but the songs gained a more complicated structure. Problem Child was released beforehand as a single and did not make the official UK chart. The album did not either and was dismissed by critics at the time as a misstep. AllMusic later called it a respectable punk document.
