The Head on the Door
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Head on the Door is the sixth studio album by the Cure and was released on 30 August 1985 on Fiction Records. Drummer Boris Williams took part for the first time, and bassist Simon Gallup and guitarist Porl Thompson returned. It is the first record for which Robert Smith wrote all the songs alone and the first with several singles. Smith wanted, following the example of Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie and the Banshees, a varied record full of colours.
You can hear that. Kyoto Song has an oriental hook and The Blood is in flamenco style. In Between Days opens the album, and Close to Me was called a disco thing by critics. The title comes from the chorus of Close to Me. It became the band's first big international success, and Melody Maker chose it as best album of 1985.
