Days of Open Hand
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Days of Open Hand is Suzanne Vega's third studio album and came out on 10 April 1990 on A&M Records, as the follow-up to the successful Solitude Standing. She produced it together with Anton Sanko, who co-composed six of the eleven songs. The recording took place from late 1989 to early 1990 in studios in New York. The folk rock was given more variety, with instruments such as the ney and the dumbec, more synthesizers and samplers, and guests such as Philip Glass, Shawn Colvin and John Linnell of They Might Be Giants.
The album did well in the British top 10, but in the United States it stalled at number 50, without a major hit. Even so, more than a million copies were sold. It won a Grammy for best packaging. Paul Evans in Rolling Stone gave it four out of five stars and called it her hardest and most beautiful music to date.
