Haunted Heart
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Haunted Heart is a jazz album on which the opera singer Renée Fleming collaborates with pianist Fred Hersch and guitarist Bill Frisell. The title song dates from 1948, written by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz for the revue Inside U.S.A., where it was the biggest hit.
The repertoire is remarkably broad. Alongside jazz standards such as My One and Only Love and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Jimmy Webb, there are pop songs, such as River by Joni Mitchell, My Cherie Amour by Stevie Wonder and In My Life by Lennon and McCartney. There is also classical repertoire: Mahler's Liebst Du Um Schönheit, an arrangement of Alban Berg's Wozzeck, the song Psyché by Emile Paladilhe and a piece by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The album closes with Hard Times Come Again No More by Stephen Foster.
