In My Life
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
In My Life is Judy Collins's fifth studio album and was released in 1966 on Elektra Records. Her earlier records had consisted mainly of straightforward folk. Now she worked with arranger Joshua Rifkin, who wrote orchestral arrangements for many of the songs. That was a clear step away from her previous work.
The record contains songs by Leonard Cohen, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Richard Fariña. Collins's version of Suzanne is regarded as the recording that introduced Cohen's music to a large audience. The album reached number forty-six on the Billboard chart in 1967 and was certified gold in 1970. Reviewer William Ruhlmann later called it largely an excellent album and one of her best. He saw in the record a singer broadening her horizons.
