This Is How I Feel About Jazz
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
This Is How I Feel About Jazz · In September 1956 Quincy Jones arranged and conducted three recording sessions for his first full album as a bandleader. Before that he had only taken part in the shared album Jazz Abroad from 1955. Each session had a different line-up, from a nonet to a fifteen-piece big band. The producer was Creed Taylor and the album was released in 1957 on ABC-Paramount.
Among those playing on the record are Charles Mingus, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Lucky Thompson, Hank Jones, Paul Chambers, Milt Jackson, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims and Herbie Mann. The album thus shows how many top musicians the young arranger managed to gather around him. For the 1992 CD edition, bonus tracks from Go West, Man! were added and it appeared on the Impulse! label, which Taylor had later set up. The cover resembles the original, but carries the Impulse! logo.
