Shine On Brightly
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Shine On Brightly · After the hits A Whiter Shade of Pale and Homburg, Procol Harum released a second album in September 1968. On paper Denny Cordell produced the record, but halfway through the recording he and the band parted ways, partly because he wanted to place drummer B.J. Wilson with Joe Cocker. Most of the production work was then done by Tony Visconti.
The record is regarded as an early example of progressive rock. The opening track Quite Rightly So is about a broken love. Rambling On tells of a boy who wants to imitate Batman and jumps off a roof. The great closer is In Held 'Twas In I, a suite that takes up almost a whole side and consists of several parts. The single fell short of the first two, but in the United States the album sold better than the debut. Rolling Stone was unfavourable, but AllMusic later called the suite bolder than anything The Nice or The Moody Blues made.
