Indie Cindy

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Indie Cindy was released on 19 April 2014. It was the Pixies' first album since Trompe le Monde in 1991 and the first without bassist Kim Deal. Simon Ding Archer, formerly of The Fall, took over the bass. The record gathers the tracks from the three EPs EP1, EP2 and EP3 from 2013 and 2014. These had been recorded in 2012 under producer Gil Norton, who had also made Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe le Monde.

In the United States the album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, the band's highest position there. Critics were divided. Many found it more predictable than the older work and compared it to a Black Francis solo record, because Deal was missing. NME was positive and heard in Bagboy a free, adventurous and explosive sound. The Telegraph felt that the band had found gritty melodies within the bigger, smoother style of Trompe le Monde.
