Low‐Life
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Low‐Life · Low-Life is New Order's third studio album and was released on 13 May 1985 on Factory Records. It is regarded as the moment when the group completed the transition from post-punk to dance rock. Synthesizers and samplers were given more room, but the rock elements of earlier work remained. Shortly before its release, the band filmed the concert film Pumped Full of Drugs in Tokyo with the new songs. Jonathan Demme directed the video for The Perfect Kiss.
The sleeve features photographs of the band members for the first time, taken with instant film. Designer Peter Saville was tired of conceptual sleeves. For the CD version, the buyer could choose which band member was visible through the sleeve. Critics praised the variety of soul pop, techno rock and quiet instrumental pieces. One reviewer called the album the point at which rock and electronics merged seamlessly.
