Life

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Life is the debut album by Inspiral Carpets. It was released on 23 April 1990 on Mute Records, through the band's own label Cow Records. The band recorded it in September 1989 at Out of the Blue and produced it themselves, together with Nick Garside. The lineup consisted of singer Tom Hingley, organist Clint Boon, guitarist Graham Lambert, bassist Martyn Walsh and drummer Craig Gill.

The record belongs to Madchester: guitar music with a distinct role for the organ. "This Is How It Feels" reached number 14 on the British singles chart and "She Comes in the Fall" number 27. In 1990 the album reached number 2 on the British albums chart and was certified gold by the BPI. "Move" appears on the British CD and cassette as a bonus track. The Beast Inside followed in 1991.
