Brotherhood

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Brotherhood · In 1986, New Order's fourth album was released on Factory Records. The group again sought the combination of post-punk and electronic music and divided the songs more or less over two sides: one with synthesizers, the other with guitars. Stephen Morris later called that a schizophrenic mood and thought it did not quite work. Peter Saville's sleeve shows a photograph of a sheet of titanium-zinc alloy, and early editions came in a metal sleeve.

Bizarre Love Triangle became the only single and the breakthrough in the United States and Australia. In All Day Long, influences of the Prelude from Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold can be heard. The ending of Every Little Counts sounds like a needle that keeps skipping. Critics later called it an underrated album, alongside its big single.

Listening

Listening tip. In Every Little Counts, listen to the odd ending, which sounds as if the needle of a record keeps getting stuck.
