Concorde
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Concorde is an album by the Modern Jazz Quartet, recorded on 2 July 1955 in New York and released that same year as Prestige 7005. It is the first album with drummer Connie Kay, who replaced Kenny Clarke, and the group's first LP conceived for the long-playing format from the outset. The liner notes ask the listener to regard the record as a performance in one of the best jazz clubs in America.
Besides Kay, Milt Jackson plays vibraphone, John Lewis piano and Percy Heath bass. The repertoire runs from Ralph's New Blues and All of You to a Gershwin Medley and Lewis's title track. AllMusic called the transition between the drummers smooth and the Gershwin interpretations definitive.
