Milt Jackson Quartet

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Milt Jackson Quartet · Milt Jackson Quartet, also released as Soul Pioneers, contains recordings that vibraphonist Milt Jackson made on 20 May 1955 at the Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. The album was released on Prestige. Jackson plays together with pianist Horace Silver, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Connie Kay, a small line-up in which every musician remains audible.

The record consists of six tracks, three on each side. You will find standards such as My Funny Valentine, The Nearness of You and I Should Care, alongside Stonewall, an original composition by Jackson. The AllMusic writer Scott Yanow called the music a pleasant set in a straightforward jazz style.
