And Do They Do / Zoo Caprices
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
And Do They Do / Zoo Caprices is Michael Nyman's eighth album and his fifth with his own band. It combines two works. And Do They Do is a modern dance production commissioned by Siobhan Davies and the London Contemporary Dance Theatre, which premiered on 25 November 1986 at Sadler's Wells Theatre. It consists of four linked Songs, although nobody sings in it. The third is jazzy in colour, but based on Nachtlied by Robert Schumann.
He wrote Zoo Caprices for the violinist Alexander Balanescu, who played it in Paris in April 1986. It is an arrangement of the music for the film A Zed & Two Noughts by Peter Greenaway, in which Balanescu uses multiple stopping on a single violin to sound several harmonies at once. The record first appeared on LP on Ter Records, followed by the CD in 1989.
