Got to Be There
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Got to Be There is Michael Jackson's first solo album, released by Motown on 24 January 1972, four weeks after the Jackson 5's Greatest Hits. Berry Gordy was executive producer. The arrangers included The Corporation, Gene Page and James Anthony Carmichael.
The album contains covers of Ain't No Sunshine, You've Got a Friend and Love Is Here and Now You're Gone. The tempo ranges from 74 beats per minute in Ain't No Sunshine to 170 in Rockin' Robin. The title song and Rockin' Robin became two big hits. AllMusic found the album as a whole uneven, but praised the covers of You've Got a Friend and Ain't No Sunshine as proof of his versatility as a singer.
