Ben
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Ben is Michael Jackson's second solo album for Motown, released on 4 August 1972, when he was still a member of the Jackson 5. Recording ran from November 1971 to February 1972. Berry Gordy was executive producer and six people produced the record.
The title song, the theme from the film Ben, became his first number 1 in the United States, won a Golden Globe and received an Oscar nomination. He also sings covers of My Girl, People Make the World Go Round, You Can Cry on My Shoulder and Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day. The critics were mixed to positive. Rolling Stone thought it a good deal stronger than the first album.
