Nuthin’ Fancy
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Nuthin’ Fancy · Nuthin' Fancy is Lynyrd Skynyrd's third album and was released in March 1975. It reached the top ten of the American album chart. It was the first record with the drummer Artimus Pyle. At the end of May that year the guitarist Ed King left the group in the middle of the Torture Tour. Al Kooper produced the album and played on it himself, on Moog, organ and piano.
The only single was Saturday Night Special, which reached number 27 on the Billboard chart. The critic Robert Christgau heard heavy rock in it with a funky undertone, and called the song a real killer. He also praised the singer Ronnie Van Zant, who had never used his hoarse baritone so subtly: with the smallest shifts he switches from boastful to warning.
