Can’t Slow Down
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Can’t Slow Down · Can't Slow Down was Lionel Richie's second solo album, after his time with the Commodores. It was released on 14 October 1983 by Motown. According to Christgau, the bouncy, internationally flavoured dance music suited Richie better than the funk of his old group, and his ballads were an improvement too. On All Night Long (All Night) a large choir sings along in a song that Q later described as a hymn to the good life.
The album reached the top spot on the American album chart and spent 59 consecutive weeks in the top ten. All five singles reached the top ten of the Hot 100, with All Night Long (All Night) and Hello at number one. In 1985 it won the Grammy for Album of the Year, ahead of Born in the U.S.A. and Purple Rain. It became his best-selling record, with more than twenty million copies worldwide.
