Don’t Cry Now

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Don’t Cry Now · Linda Ronstadt recorded for Capitol early in her career, but got out of that contract earlier than planned in order to sign with David Geffen's Asylum Records. Don't Cry Now was her first album there and the first with the producer Peter Asher, with whom she would later make thirteen albums. Recording began in 1972 and lasted a year, partly because she went on tour with Neil Young. First John Boylan and JD Souther produced, after which Asher finished the album.

Many tracks are covers, including Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Sail Away by Randy Newman, Desperado by the Eagles and I Believe in You by Neil Young. Souther wrote three tracks, including the title song. Reviewers praised her singing. Allmusic called it her first real hit record.
