Desperado

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Desperado is the Eagles' second album and was released on 17 April 1973 on Asylum Records. Glyn Johns produced it again, this time at Island Studios in London. After the success of the first record Glenn Frey wanted to be taken seriously and came up with a concept album. Jackson Browne showed the group a book about Wild West bandits, and from it Doolin-Dalton emerged. The theme became the Wild West, with the outlaw serving as an image for life in rock 'n' roll.

Frey and Henley began writing together after the first record. Desperado and Tequila Sunrise came about in the first week. The title song was never released as a single but became one of the group's best-known songs. Tequila Sunrise and Outlaw Man were the singles. In 2000 the record entered the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Listening tip. Listen to Desperado and notice how the lyrics sketch a lonely outlaw.
