Eagles
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Eagles' debut album was released on 1 June 1972 on Asylum Records. David Geffen had sent the new band to Aspen to develop, and Glenn Frey wanted Glyn Johns as producer. Johns had doubts after a messy performance, but changed his mind when the four members sang together on Take the Devil. At Olympic Studios in London they recorded the album in two weeks.
Johns emphasised harmonies and an acoustic sound, to the annoyance of Frey and Don Henley, who would have preferred a rougher sound. On Take It Easy, Bernie Leadon plays banjo at double speed. Nightingale was added later in Los Angeles because Henley needed more vocals. Take It Easy, Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling all became singles in the American top forty. The album contributed to the rise of country rock.
