Jazz Waltz
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Jazz Waltz · The pianist Les McCann recorded this record in 1963 with The Jazz Crusaders and released it on the Pacific Jazz label. Besides McCann, who plays piano, organ and electric piano, we hear the members of the Crusaders: Wayne Henderson on trombone, Wilton Felder on tenor saxophone, Joe Sample on piano and organ, Bobby Haynes on bass and Stix Hooper on drums. The repertoire is mixed. It includes pieces by Fats Waller, Bobby Timmons, Toots Thielemans and Miles Davis, and also compositions by McCann himself, such as Damascus.
AllMusic gave the album three stars.
Listening
Listening tip. Listen to All Blues, a composition by Miles Davis, and notice how the horns of The Jazz Crusaders and McCann's piano alternate.
