Lost & Found

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

After her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue, from 2002, Ledisi's career stalled. She ran into money worries and went through a divorce, and considered leaving music for Broadway. In 2006 she opened a show for Chaka Khan in Washington. Ron Goldstein, the head of Verve Records, was in the audience and offered her a contract afterwards. Lost & Found, her third album, was released on 28 August 2007. She worked on the album with, among others, Rex Rideout, Lorenzo Johnson and Luther Mano Hanes.

It sounds like traditional rhythm and blues with influences from funk, hip hop and soul, and is about love, strength and relaxation. She wrote Alright because she herself doubted whether she wanted to stay in music. The album received good reviews, reached the top ten of the American R&B chart and earned nominations for a Grammy for Best R&B Album and for Best New Artist.
