Let’s Get to It

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Let’s Get to It · Let's Get to It is Kylie Minogue's fourth studio album and her last with Pete Waterman Limited. It was released in October 1991 in the United Kingdom. After Matt Aitken had left Stock Aitken Waterman, Mike Stock and Pete Waterman still wanted to make a record with her. For the first time they shared their writing credits with her, on six tracks. They worked for months at PWL Studios in London, longer than on her earlier albums.

The sound is varied: hip hop, new jack swing, house and dance-pop. Word Is Out opens as new jack swing, and Give Me Just a Little More Time is a cover of Chairmen of the Board. If You Were with Me Now is a duet with Keith Washington, her first duet on an album. Finer Feelings is deliberately more sexual. The reviews were mixed and the album was one of her least successful: it did not make the top ten. Minogue was disappointed and left PWL in 1992.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Finer Feelings and notice the line in the chorus that refers to Marvin Gaye and Sexual Healing.
