Life Is Peachy

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Life Is Peachy · After fourteen months of touring with the debut, Korn took a month off and began work on a second album. The group returned to the producer Ross Robinson and to Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, where the first album had also been recorded. Most of it came together in the studio itself, quickly, to preserve the energy of the stage. The guitarists wanted more melody and atmosphere and used volume swells and effects pedals, while the bassist crossed hip hop beats with his bass lines. The singer Jonathan Davis wrote lyrics about drugs, sex, betrayal and revenge.

The album includes No Place to Hide, A.D.I.D.A.S. and Good God, among others. The vocals in Good God were seen as the heart of the record. Critics were divided, but praised the writing and the sound: metal with hip hop beats. The album became the band's first major breakthrough and contributed to what would later be called nu metal.
