Thankful

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Thankful is Kelly Clarkson's debut and came out on 15 April 2003 on RCA Records. In September 2002 she had won the first season of American Idol. She then recorded with many different writers and producers, including Babyface, Desmond Child, Cathy Dennis and The Underdogs. The release was pushed back from November 2002, because of her busy schedule and the search for suitable material. She co-wrote four of the twelve songs and had to fight for uptempo songs, because the label preferred ballads. There are four covers, including Some Kind of Miracle, Anytime and Just Missed the Train.

Miss Independent became her first international hit and earned a first Grammy nomination. The Trouble with Love Is appeared on the soundtrack of Love Actually. The album entered at number one in the United States. Critics praised her voice and versatility, but found the record too heavily produced and too closely tied to the talent show.
