Trouble

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Trouble · After David Coverdale had left Deep Purple, he formed a band in 1978 to promote his solo work. Whitesnake played their first gig on 3 March 1978. With the EP Snakebite, which reached number 61, they secured a contract with EMI. In July 1978 the band recorded their first proper studio album at Central Recorders in London, with producer Martin Birch. Recording and mixing took only ten days. Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden played guitar and sang backing vocals. Marsden himself sings on Free Flight.

Coverdale wrote most of it, apart from Day Tripper by Lennon and McCartney. Don't Mess With Me is by the whole band. According to him, the title came partly from the fact that his first child was born during the recording. The sleeve shows a snake; in America the album received a different sleeve with a snake coming out of a purple egg cell.
