The Magnificent Tree

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The Magnificent Tree is the third album by the Belgian group Hooverphonic. It was released on 26 September 2000. The recording cost eight million Belgian francs, which made it one of the most expensive Belgian records, partly because the first three weeks were thrown away: according to the source, the group was heading in the wrong direction. The record company hoped for far higher sales than for the two earlier albums. Geike Arnaert sings, Raymond Geerts plays guitar and Alex Callier handles keyboards, bass, programming and production.

Four singles were released: Mad About You, Vinegar & Salt, Out of Sight and Jackie Cane. Vinegar & Salt contains a sample of Je Me Repose. Reactions were mixed. MTV thought the sound was becoming too modern, while AllMusic praised Arnaert's voice and called Out of Sight and Mad About You dramatic.
