Hooverphonic presents Jackie Cane
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Hooverphonic presents Jackie Cane · This fourth album by Hooverphonic is a concept album about the fictional character Jackie Cane. She leaves her identical twin sister to become a professional singer. The pressure of fame almost drives her to madness. She stops performing and returns home to make amends, but her sister is bitter and poisons them both with a last supper.
The dreamlike atmosphere of earlier work remains in Nirvana Blue and Human Interest, which refers to Echoes by Pink Floyd. In The World Is Mine and Day After Day, critics hear the influence of Broadway. Sometimes contains a sample of Young Man Cried by The Walker Brothers. The record went platinum in Belgium and won two ZAMUs in 2002, for best pop group and best album. The World Is Mine became the theme tune of the TV series Mile High.
