Inventions & Dimensions · Herbie Hancock recorded his third album for Blue Note on 30 August 1963. He plays piano, with the bassist Paul Chambers and the percussionists Willie Bobo and Chihuahua Martinez. It is a remarkable record: there is a great deal of Latin percussion, yet it is not Latin jazz. The album is above all a further exploration of modal jazz and post-bop.
All five tracks are his own. Triangle lasts well over eleven minutes and Succotash almost eight. In the 1970s the record was reissued under the title Succotash, with Hancock and Bobo on the cover and the sides reversed. The CD also includes a second version of Mimosa.
