Harry’s House
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Harry’s House · Harry Styles's third solo album came about largely in 2020 and 2021, including at the Shangri-La studio in Malibu. The title refers to Hosono House by the Japanese musician Haruomi Hosono, a record he had heard during a stay in Japan. The house of the title stands for his own head: a day full of happy and sad music. This makes it his most personal work.
The sound leans on Japanese city pop of the 1970s and 1980s, with synth-pop, new wave, pop rock and pop-funk. Music For a Sushi Restaurant was at first intended as the album title. Matilda is named after Roald Dahl's book. John Mayer plays guitar on Cinema and Daydreaming. As It Was became the biggest single. Critics were full of praise for the production, and the album won a Grammy for Album of the Year.
