Something's Coming
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Something's Coming · The album was recorded in August 1963 in Studio B of RCA Victor in New York and was released a year later on RCA. It was the third album that the vibraphonist Gary Burton made as a leader. He plays here with the guitarist Jim Hall, the bassist Chuck Israels and the drummer Larry Bunker, three musicians associated with the pianist Bill Evans.
The seven pieces consist of standards such as On Green Dolphin Street, Little Girl Blue and Summertime, supplemented by pieces by Michael Gibbs, a number by Jim Hall and the title song from West Side Story, written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. The critic Scott Yanow wrote on Allmusic that the vibraphonist was rapidly developing into a fresh new voice on his instrument.
