America Eats Its Young
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
America Eats Its Young · In May 1972 came Funkadelic's fourth studio album, and immediately their first double album. For the first time all the House Guests took part, among them Bootsy Collins, Catfish Collins, Chicken Gunnels, Rob McCollough and Kash Waddy, and on most tracks also the band U.S. with Garry Shider and Cordell Mosson. Unlike the earlier records, it was recorded in Toronto and in the United Kingdom.
The album is above all experimental, contains no hits and reads like a lesson in the history of Black music. The biographer Kris Needs called it George Clinton's great statement on the Vietnam War. Reviews were divided. Robert Christgau liked only Biological Speculation and Loose Booty and later called it the group's worst album. Ned Raggett of AllMusic thought it worth every minute. According to the Rolling Stone Album Guide, it contains elements that led Clinton to Parliament, such as vocal harmonies and the playful humour of Bernie Worrell.
