Compton

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Compton is Dr. Dre's third album and the follow-up to 2001 from 1999. It came out after he announced in his radio show on 1 August 2015 that he was scrapping the album Detox, which had been delayed for years. During the making of the film Straight Outta Compton, about N.W.A, he became so inspired that he went back into the studio. The work was recorded from 2013 to 2015 with many producers and a long list of guests, among them Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Anderson .Paak.

The record was released on 7 August 2015 on Apple Music and iTunes, two weeks before the physical release. Critics were enthusiastic. Rolling Stone called the album at once confusing and compelling, with Dre's ambitious production as a strong point. Robert Christgau named Genocide and Animals as highlights. Pitchfork placed it at number 32 among the best albums of 2015.
