Here I Am

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Here I Am is Dionne Warwick's fifth album and was released on 21 December 1965 on Scepter Records. Burt Bacharach and Hal David produced it, as they mostly did until 1968. Recording took place at Bell Sound Studios in New York.

The title single was heard in the film What's New Pussycat?, but did not reach the top 40 in the United States. The follow-up Looking With My Eyes also missed the chart, despite an appearance on the dance programme Hullabaloo. The third single, Are You There (With Another Girl), did become a hit and reached the top 40. The source also mentions the cheerful Window Wishing and the especially beautiful If I Ever Make You Cry. In This Little Light the singer plays piano herself. On some early copies there were errors on the sleeve, with titles that turned out not to be on the record.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to This Little Light and notice the piano: the singer plays it herself, so you hear her here in a role other than just as a voice.
