Burt Bacharach

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Burt Bacharach studied with Darius Milhaud, among others, and worked as an arranger and accompanist for Marlene Dietrich. With the lyricist Hal David he wrote dozens of hits in the 1960s, often for Dionne Warwick. His songs have unusual changes of time signature, surprising chords and a light orchestral sound with flugelhorn, piano and backing vocals. In film he wrote mainly title songs and light scores, such as What's New Pussycat? (1965) and the Bond parody Casino Royale (1967). In it Dusty Springfield sings The Look of Love. For Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) he won two Oscars: for the score and for the song Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head.
