A Night to Remember

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

A Night to Remember is Cyndi Lauper's third album and was released on 9 May 1989 on Epic Records. It was originally due out in 1988 under the title Kindred Spirit. When the song Hole in My Heart and the film Vibes turned out not to be successes, the project was adapted. Of the ten original tracks, eight remained, and A Night to Remember, Dancing with a Stranger and I Don't Want to Be Your Friend were added later.

The record produced a top ten single, but fell far short of the sales of her first two albums. The reviews were mixed to poor. According to AllMusic she was trying to become a mature singer-songwriter, which did not always work, except in I Drove All Night. Rolling Stone and the Los Angeles Times praised her voice, but found the material uneven. In interviews she herself calls the album A Night to Forget.
