A Rush of Blood to the Head

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

A Rush of Blood to the Head · After the worldwide successes of Parachutes and Yellow, Coldplay began work on a second album in London in September 2001, and later moved to Liverpool. Politik, the opening track, was written by Chris Martin on 11 September and recorded by the band two days later. By June 2002 the album was finished, but the band themselves did not think the result good enough and postponed the release. Late in the sessions Martin wrote a piano riff that became Clocks; that version was first put on a demo for a following album.

The album uses more electric guitar and piano than its predecessor, and was released on 26 August 2002. In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks and God Put a Smile upon Your Face became singles. The critical response was glowing, the album won, among other things, a Grammy for Record of the Year for Clocks, and earned a place on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 200 Definitive Albums.
