X&Y
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
X&Y · Coldplay's third album came about in a difficult period. The band worked on the record throughout 2004 and threw a lot away. Of sixty songs written, only eight remained, and the recordings with Ken Nelson were largely discarded. Manager Phil Harvey was temporarily away, so for the first time they were without his advice. In the end the band re-recorded the album with producer Danton Supple. The song Square One helped the band regain confidence. The record has twelve tracks, divided into an X half and a Y half, plus the hidden Til Kingdom Come.
Talk borrows the melody of Computer Love by Kraftwerk, but played on a guitar. Fix You begins as a gentle organ number and grows into a full finale. X&Y received good reviews and did very well worldwide, although the band themselves later became less satisfied with it.
