Rendezvous
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Rendezvous is a duo album by singer Cassandra Wilson and pianist Jacky Terrasson, released on 23 September 1997 by Blue Note. The title comes from a ballad by Herbie Hancock. It was recorded in January and April 1997 at Clinton Recording Studios in New York. Terrasson wrote all the arrangements. The album was recorded and mixed in analogue, without noise reduction and without equalizers in mastering.
The programme consists mainly of jazz and pop standards, with one song by Terrasson. With only piano, bass and percussion, the voice sounds barer than on her earlier records. One reviewer heard in Wilson a more vulnerable Nina Simone. The mood is dark and thoughtful. The reviews were mostly glowing, but The New York Times called it a mediocre standards album.
