Can
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Can was released in 1979, after the group had broken up, on Harvest in Germany and Laser Records in England. The recording had been made in February 1978 at Inner Space Studios in Weilerswist near Cologne. Holger Czukay now only did the tape editing. The sound is cleaner and more spacious than on the two preceding records. On Safe, Jaki Liebezeit's drums and Rosko Gee's bass fit together more tightly than before.
A Spectacle was written by the group as a signature tune for the ZDF programme Aspekte, and Efs No. 99 Can Can is a wild arrangement of Offenbach's Infernal Galop. Reviewers saw the album as a solid conclusion to the first period. Biographer Rob Young heard a band that sounded far less constrained than on the previous record.
