The Voice of America

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Cabaret Voltaire released The Voice of America in July 1980 on Rough Trade. It is the English group's third studio album. The band members recorded and produced it themselves. The record opens with a piece of newsreel of police officers being given instructions on how to deal with Beatles fans, ahead of a Beatles concert in 1966. Stay Out of It contains three sentences from the episode Demon with a Glass Hand of The Outer Limits.

Trouser Press wrote that the new material had far more focus and cleaner production than earlier work. The mantra, the constant repetition of a pattern, replaced the chaotic electronic noise of before. AllMusic found it less spectacular than what was still to come, but not without tension. In Partially Submerged, SF Weekly heard a mixture of Krautrock and free jazz.
