Twice as Tall

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Twice as Tall · Burna Boy recorded this album mainly in Ahoada in Nigeria, in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Diddy was executive producer together with Burna Boy's mother Bose Ogulu. Because of the lockdown they worked via Zoom and by exchanging files. Telz produced most of it, alongside Rexxie and Timbaland, among others. The sleeve shows the singer as a titan striding over modern roads and ancient monuments.

The album mixes Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop. It opens with Level Up, featuring Youssou N'Dour. Alarm Clock leans on Fela Kuti and begins with a spoken intro by Diddy. Monsters You Made, with Chris Martin, is about injustice, slavery and prejudice. It ends with a spoken piece by the Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo. Twice as Tall won a Grammy for Best Global Music Album.
