Barefoot Adventure

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

This album contains the music for Barefoot Adventure, the surf film that Bruce Brown made in 1961. All the pieces were written by saxophonist Bud Shank himself. He played them with a small jazz combo and released them on the label Pacific Jazz.

The line-up has Carmell Jones on trumpet, Bob Cooper on tenor saxophone, Dennis Budimir on guitar, Gary Peacock on bass and Shelly Manne on drums. The leader himself plays alto saxophone and baritone saxophone. The titles, such as Jungle Cruise, How High the Makaha and Ala Moana, refer to beach and sea. AllMusic gave the album three stars.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Dance of the Sea Monsters and notice how the horns and the rhythm section together create a cinematic atmosphere.
