Plastic Letters

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Plastic Letters is Blondie's second album, released in February 1978 by Chrysalis Records. Richard Gottehrer produced it, for the last time. During the recording the band were still bound to Private Stock. Bassist Gary Valentine had just left the group, and Frank Infante played guitar and bass as a session musician. Chris Stein played lead guitar. The sleeve design with Debbie Harry's pink dress was by Anya Phillips.

The album was a success mainly in Europe. Denis, a cover of Denise by Randy and the Rainbows, reached number 2 in the United Kingdom, and (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear, written by Valentine, reached number ten. The album itself reached number 10 and went platinum in the United Kingdom. The Globe and Mail wrote that the band's hardness was softened by quirky arrangements. The 2001 reissue also includes the first demo of what would later become Heart of Glass.
