The Diary of Alicia Keys

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The Diary of Alicia Keys · The Diary of Alicia Keys, released in November 2003 by J Records, was Alicia Keys's second album. After her successful debut Songs in A Minor, she had to deliver the dreaded second record. She began writing already during the tour and recorded in New York, with live instruments, including in her own studio KrucialKeys. She wrote and produced almost everything herself. The album works as a musical diary, above all about the complexity of relationships. The sound is traditional 1960s and 1970s soul, mixed with classical piano and hip hop. Kanye West produced You Don't Know My Name and Timbaland worked on Heartburn.

She wrote If I Ain't Got You early on, after the news of Aaliyah's death. The album received wide praise and won a Grammy for Best R&B Album. It reached number one in the United States and yielded three top ten hits.
