Diary
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Diary is the first solo album by the American jazz guitarist and composer Ralph Towner. He recorded it in two days in April 1973 and released it that same year on ECM.
Towner plays not only twelve-string and classical guitar here, but also piano and gong. By layering recordings on top of one another he accompanies himself, so that it sounds as if more musicians are playing. The result is an intimate, chamber-like sound. The AllMusic reviewer thought of it as a solo performance with an extra layer, and heard in the method of working something of Bill Evans's Conversations with Myself. He gave the album three stars.
