Rockabilly
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Rockabilly is the fast, stripped-down variant of rock 'n' roll in which country and rhythm and blues come together. You recognise it by the slapback echo on the voice, which defined the sound of Sun Records in Memphis, the slapped double bass and the metallic twang of the guitar. Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran were the idols of the rockers in England and the nozems in the Netherlands.
Listening
Listening tip. In That's All Right, hear the slapback echo and Bill Black's slapped double bass. In C'mon Everybody you hear the stop-time riff, in which the band falls silent and Cochran sings his line into that silence.
