Moombahton

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Moombahton · In late 2009 the DJ Dave Nada was playing at a party for his cousin in Washington. The guests wanted to hear reggaeton, so he slowed down a Dutch house track, Afrojack's remix of Moombah, from about 128 to 108 bpm. That is how moombahton arose, a name from Moombah and reggaeton. The tempo is slow, the rhythm is the dembow of reggaeton and the sounds come from Dutch house. In 2015 Major Lazer took the sound into the charts with Lean On.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Que Que for the slow, swaying dembow rhythm beneath the hard synthesizers of Dutch house.
